The Duty Legacy Ltd is a UK human rights and policy consultancy set up in 2023 under the directorship of James Joseph. We provide advice, research, advocacy and capacity-building — on a paid and pro bono basis — to governments, parliaments, NGOs, charities and private clients. Our focus is atrocity prevention, transitional justice, survivor-centred policy and putting justice in the hands of those most affected by conflict and injustice.
Please include a short note on who you are, what you need and any relevant deadlines. If you are a student applying for an internship or placement, put that in the subject line.
Our public home is www.thedutylegacy.org.uk.
The Duty Legacy Ltd is registered in England and Wales (company number 15081339). The registered office is Country View, Sandon Road, Cresswell, Stoke-on-Trent, ST11 9RB. Our public profile and much of our advocacy work is based in London. We work nationally and internationally rather than from a walk-in high-street office, so please contact us first rather than arriving unannounced.
We offer human rights and foreign-policy consultancy, including:

Issues and contexts we have engaged with include Bosnia and the Srebrenica genocide, Afghanistan (including Hazara communities), Bangladesh, Burma/Myanmar, Tigray, Iran, Hong Kong, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Sri Lanka and Rwanda, as well as broader questions of UN reform, international institutions, Rome Statute crimes and UK foreign policy.

We will confirm current vacancies, whether a role is paid or unpaid, and whether we can support a formal university work-placement agreement.
We welcome applications from undergraduate and postgraduate students, recent graduates and early-career professionals with a genuine interest in human rights, international law, foreign policy, atrocity prevention, transitional justice, research or advocacy. Relevant degree subjects often include law, politics, international relations, human rights, history or related fields, but we look at motivation and skills as well as subject.
This depends on the role and timing. Some opportunities may be unpaid learning placements; others may include a stipend or sit within a funded project. If your university requires a formal work-placement or internship agreement, say so when you apply and we will tell you whether we can accommodate it. At our we may choose to fund a trip abroad, or an-in person event or conference.
